After a long day of work or hours of homeschooling, gathering in the kitchen is a great way to end the day. Dinner time is an opportunity to talk about the day, plan for the next one, and enjoy quality conversation. During this time of social distancing, if you’re home with family, take advantage of this time. Before you sit down for a meal, here are a few ways to get the family involved. Gentle Touch Footcare has a few tips to share.
Pick a color
Fruits and vegetables are not only delicious additions to a meal but also healthy food items. Choose two or three different colors each week and pick fruits or vegetables to match. For red, think tomatoes. Yellow could be a banana. Use this opportunity to show your children a variety of fruits and vegetables. Hopefully, they will see the fun in choosing healthy meals.
Start with water
Other beverages can certainly add to a meal but start with water to stay hydrated. Throughout the day, be sure to include other healthy choices like milk and avoid sugary drinks. While in the house, it can be difficult to stay hydrated. It’s fine to have coffee or other beverages, but your body still needs water.
Cleaning up may be the last thing on your mind after a delicious meal. One way to include exercise is to turn on some music and get moving. Break up the cleaning responsibilities so that it becomes a team effort. Sweep the floor, clear the table, wash the dishes — just keep moving. If your workout time has been altered, use household activities to add movement to your new routine.
