Warts can be painful, unsightly and itchy. According to research, 20 million American will have to deal with a wart on their foot at some point in their lives. The warts that appear on the bottom of your feet are plantar warts. This is a very common problem that can spread if not taken care of in a timely manner.
Warts or "verruca" are caused by a virus called HPV (human pappillomavirus). This virus is usually found in dirty, warm and wet environments such as gym locker rooms. They infect the foot by entering small abrasions when a person is walking around barefoot. Sometimes it can spread by itching or scratching. Signs of warts are lesions that are itchy and soemitmes very painful especially in they're on an area of increased pressure such as the ball of the foot. To avoid getting warts, avoid walking barefoot in dirty areas, change socks and shoes daily and avoid direct contact with warts.
